Important old MELAVER hall carpet, Iran Wool velvet on cotton backing. Navy field decorated with a mosaic of geometric flowering palmettes in polychrome. Four ivory spandrels with motifs reminiscent of the French Savonnerie, with highly coloured geometric flower bulbs. The main border is ivory with bands of flower buds in the shape of stylised diamonds surrounded by lacy leaves in the shape of stylised waves. Circa 1900/1910 500 x 365 cm Some oxidation and slight wear. Beautiful polychromy. Fairly good condition (taken down one floor near the tapestry of savages).
