IMPORTANT HEREKE RUG (Asia Minor, Turkey, mid 20th century) Midnight-blue field decorated with a mosaic of a thousand polychrome flowers in the form of stylised tiles formed by fine golden-yellow crenellated branches. Seven borders, the main one ruby red with motifs, echoing the central field. Velvet, high quality silky lambswool on cotton backing. L. 315 x W. 196 cm.
