Lot no. 312
IMPORTANT NEOCLASSICAL PENDULUM CLOCK, FRANCE CIRCA 1870 A gilded and finely chased bronze pendulum clock, the case is in pure neoclassical style 'à la greque' with an architectural structure tracing the lines of the most famous classical-archaeological elements. The feet are metopes, holding large volutes that support the car and then embrace it with lion protomes clasping rings in their jaws. Laurel festoons and bows adorn the structure, repeating themselves with elegance in the upper balsam, of clear archaeological repertoire. A small acanthus vine centres the lid of the jar, acting as a final and elegant cusp. White enamel dial with Roman numerals for the hours, Arabic numerals in 5 o'clock for the minutes, gilded brass hands in the Louis XVI style, 15-day movement, with anchor escapement, metal suspension, hour and half-hour chime on a bell, with part-wheel. Watch complete with winding key and pendulum. In working order. H. 41 cm, W. 25 cm, D. 15 cm IMPORTANT NEOCLASSICAL PENDULUM CLOCK, FRANCE CIRCA 1870
