Lot no. 1419
Impressionism Grulich, Paul Cathedral on the water. 1913. oil on canvas, firmly mounted on panel. 24.5 x 29.5 cm. Signed and dated. Framed in gold-coloured frame. Very little is known about the artist Paul Grulich, but his detailed descriptions and reports of his experiences as a homeless man in Berlin in the early 20th century have survived. He often wandered around the city for weeks on end, probably completely destitute, full of despair and lacking prospects. The harmonious view of the cathedral stands in complete contrast, with a bridge in the foreground spanning the seemingly peaceful body of water, in which the sunlight is reflected in an atmospheric way. - With slight surface dusting and somewhat yellowed, slight rubbing in the lower margin, occasional superficial and barely noticeable streak. Overall good. An atmospheric scene worked in impasto. Oil on canvas, firmly mounted to board. Signed and dated. Framed in gold coloured frame. - With slight surface dusting as well as somewhat yellowed, in the lower margin with slight rubbing, isolated superficial and barely noticeable streak marks. Overall good. Impressionistic scene worked in impasto.
