INDONESIA - INDONÉSIE Borneo, Sultanate of Banjar. Gold presentation coin, module 20 ducats, on the type of the Dutch ducaton (1759) [c.1830?], Banjarmasin ? Av MO: NO: ARGN: ON: N - Œ: BE: LG: PHO: HOL (different). Armed rider right; below, crowned shield with lion issuant. Rv. Legend undetermined (fanciful?). Crowned shield with lion of the seven provinces, supported by two crowned lions, on a rocaille cartouche with (date). KM - - Fr - - Delm. cf. 787-788 - VH&S 2024 no. 1927 p.398 (this reverse) - Heritage WCA 3002, 18 September 2008, no. 21900 (same right corner); Gold - 74.74 g - 52.5 mm - 12 h The strike is trefoiled on the right. The fields have been lightly brushed. A golden patina covers this spectacular and very rare module. Superb at Fleur de coin. Only about fifteen examples of this enigmatic type are known. According to William Barrett of the Brunei Historical Center, these pieces were made for display, probably by a local potentate.
