INDUS VALLEY KULLI POTTERY CHALICE.
Ca. 2400 - 2100 BC.
A terracotta chalice with a deep cup set upon a tall, tapering stem that broadens into a wide, circular foot. The cup is decorated with a painted frieze, divided into four sections by parallel lines. Two sections depict a bird with an elongated body, segmented wings, and a curved beak, another features a stylised peepal tree with a vertically striated trunk and radiating branches ending in pointed leaves, while a third presents a single peepal leaf. The stem is encircled by horizontal bands, and the foot is embellished with concentric circles, leaf motifs, and small rosettes.
