INDUS VALLEY NAL TERRACOTTA PAINTED VESSEL WITH BULLS Ca. 2600 - 1800 BC.
A terracotta vessel with a raised rim, slightly concave neck, and sharply angled shoulder tapering into a cylindrical body with a flat base. The surface is decorated in black and red on an orange ground, with two bulls in profile, each enclosed within a separate register. Both animals are shown with boldly outlined bodies, lattice-filled torsos, heads with curved horns and almond-shaped eyes. They are separated by a panel of vertical bands and wavy lines, which extends from the base to the neck. The recessed neck is encircled by a continuous frieze composed of alternating vertical and zigzag elements painted in black and red.
