INDUS VALLEY TERRACOTTA JAR WITH ANIMALS Ca. 2200 - 1700 BC. A large terracotta jar with a rounded body, short neck, and slightly everted rim, painted in black slip on a reddish surface. The decoration comprises a continuous frieze of stylised motifs, including a long-horned quadruped flanked by floral elements, a pair of large birds with rounded bodies and dotted eyes, and a central stylised tree with symmetrical branching. Multiple registers of horizontal lines encircle the body, with a hatched border beneath the rim. For similar see: A.
