INDUS VALLEY TERRACOTTA PAINTED JAR WITH LION AND IBEX Ca. 2600 - 1800 BC.
A terracotta jar with a globular body tapering to a flat base, broad sloping shoulders, and a narrow neck with a thickened rim. Decorated in black and red on an orange ground, the surface bears a continuous frieze showing a stylised lion in profile with a zigzag-patterned mane and plain body, while the opposite side displays an ibex with curved horns, linear markings along the torso, and a circular eye, facing a tree. Concentric roundels are interspersed throughout the composition, and the scene is framed above and below by double horizontal lines, with additional bands encircling the rim.
