A pupil of Jean-Baptiste Isabey, Inès d'Esménard received a solid artistic training that led her to exhibit at the Salon from 1814 until 1851, when she was awarded a 2nd class medal in 1819. She made her debut copying Isabey's official portraits of the Empire. She mastered the transparency of the medium and excelled at rendering the eyes, and was noticed by well-known personalities such as Vivant Denon and Mlle Mars, for whom she painted life portraits.
Rare on the market, her miniatures on ivory are a fine example of one of the most talented miniaturists of her time.
