Lot no. 326
Set of 4 volumes (Tomes II, III, IV and V) of the monumental bio-bibliographical work dedicated to the writers and intellectuals of the Marche region. The work represents one of the most important historical sources for the study of the culture of the Piceno region. Edition details: Place and printer: Osimo, presso Domenicantonio Quercetti, Stampatore Vescovile e Pubblico. Chronology: Published between 1791 and 1796. Composition of the lot: Tome Two (Lett. B): MDCCXCI (1791). Tome Three (Lett. B. C.): MDCCXCIII (1793). Tome Four (Lett. D. E. F. Ga.): MDCCXCV (1795). Tome Quinto (Lett. G. I. L.): MDCCXCVI (1796). This last volume bears a dedication by the parish priest Tommaso Moro to Count Guglielmo Guglielmi Baleani. Physical characteristics: The volumes are presented in a coeval publishing paperback in rustic paper. The frontispieces are decorated with fine intaglio vignettes: an allegorical composition with globe, books and trumpets for tomes II-IV and a decorative shell for tome V. The volumes retain their original endpapers (untrimmed sheets), a feature much appreciated by collectors for the integrity of the paper support. Conservation status: Genuine specimens in their original printed condition. There are normal signs of age on the paper covers and the margins of the sheets, typical of period paperback. Interior intact. Bio-bibliographical notes: This work, begun by Francesco Antonio Marcucci and continued by various scholars, is an indispensable tool for the literary history of the Marche region, surveying works and authors from the Middle Ages to the 18th century with scientific rigour.
