Metal, oval, decorated with laurel leaves, a helmet surmounting a shield charged with a salamander, above a cross of Lorraine.

Historical background :
Charles de Gaulle was appointed commander of the regiment when he was colonel on 13 July 1937 until 1939.
This badge is said to have been created by the colonel: the upper part bears a knight's helmet on two crossed bombards, below which is a salamander and a cross of Lorraine. The latter symbol was later adopted.
