Irmgard Loew, née Steil, was married to the Bauhaus artist Heinz Loew (1903-1981) and was particularly active as an artist in the 1920s. The State Bauhaus was founded by Walter Gropius in 1919, originally on the premises of the Grand Ducal Saxon School of Applied Arts in Weimar, founded by Henry van de Velde in 1908. In 1925 the company moved to Dessau. After the Bauhaus moved from Dessau to Berlin in 1932, Heinz Loew ran the advertising agency Studio Z together with Franz Ehrlich and Fritz Winter.
