Isaac Vogelsang (1688 Amsterdam - 1753 London) Abraham casting out Hagar and Ishmael Right-sided, greatly reduced copy after the famous, large-format painting by Guercino (1591 - 1666), originally commissioned by Massimiliano III Stampa (1621-1659), 5th Marchese di Soncino, in Milan in 1657, but who was accused of murder and sentenced to death. Instead, it was acquired by the parish of Cento and donated to the new legate of Ferrara, Cardinal Lorenzo Imperiali (1612 - 1673). In the 18th century, the painting was kept in the Palazzo Sampieri in Bologna, before finally arriving at the Pinacoteca di Brera in Milan in 1811. Isaac Vogelsang studied under Jan van Huchtenburg in Amsterdam, where he remained based. As Vogelsang's career was not successful in the Netherlands, he sought his fortune in England and travelled to London via Ireland and Scotland in 1735/36. Tempera(?)/paper, mounted on card. Signed and dated at the centre of the column base. 1750. 18.5 cm x 24.5 cm. Baroque frame. Provenance: Dissolution of an important German private collection - Part II. Tempera(?) on paper, laid down on cardboard. Signed and dated 1750. After the well-known painting by Guercino painted in 1657 (since 1811 in the Pinacoteca di Brera, Milan). Baroque frame.
