Der holländische Stilllebenmaler Isaak Denies war ein Schüler von Willem van Aelst, mit dem seine Werke oft verwechselt werden. Unser Bild wurde in den 30er Jahren von T.W.H. Ward erworben. Es soll sein erster Gemäldekauf gewesen sein. Überliefert sind aus jener Zeit Reste einer Signatur, die heute nicht mehr zu erkennen sind. The Dutch still life painter Isaak Denies was a pupil of Willem van Aelst, and his works are frequently mistaken for those of his master. The present work was purchased in the 1930s by T.W.H. Ward, and was apparently the first painting he purchased. The remains of a signature were recorded at this time, but are no longer visible.
