Print, dai oban tate-e, from the series Gendai bijinshū dai-isshu (現代美人集第一輯), First Collection of Modern Beauties, plate Yu no ka (湯の香), Scent of the Hot Spring. Signed Shinsui ga. Publisher Watanabe Shōzaburō. Dated in the autumn of Showa 5 (1930). Numbered on the reverse, 170/250.
Size 42.5 x 27.8 cm.
Limiting editions to two hundred and fifty copies, Shinsui and Watanabe began work on the Gendai bijinshū dai-isshu series in May 1929. The project consisted of creating twelve prints that would be sold to a maximum of two hundred subscribers, with the remaining fifty prints sold in Watanabe's shop.
