Itō Shinsui (Japan, 1898-1972)
Print, oban tate-e, from the series Shin bijin jūni sugata (新美人十二姿), Twelve Aspects of New Beauties, plate Kuchibeni (口紅), Lipstick. Mica on the collar. Signed Shinsui ga and artist's stamp. Publisher Watanabe Shōzaburō. Dated 10th month of Taisho 11 (1922). Numbered on the reverse 55/200 (Minor restorations).
Size 42.7 x 25.9 cm.
The Shin bijin jūni sugata series was commissioned by the Ukiyo-e Research Society (Ukiyo-e kenkyūkai) and was sold in an edition of two hundred prints per drawing. Eleven prints were published in 1922-23, the last drawing being postponed until 1924 due to the great Kantō earthquake.
