Italian School. 17th century. Circle of Mario Nuzzi (Rome, 1603–1673) “Saint with Child and Floral Border” Oil on canvas. 133 x 97 cm. Our painting, of high quality, is part of the body of works currently attributed to Nuzzi or his circle, in which the high quality of the floral border stands out, with a specific format and composition of flower types, thus framing the religious scene with its loose and delicate brushwork. We find, for example, a strong resemblance to the painting “Floral Wreath with the Holy Family” found in the archives of the RKD Institute, cataloged as a work possibly by Mario Nuzzi, Daniël Seghers, and Filippo Lauri (https://rkd.nl/images/197663) or the “Floral wreath around an image with putti” attributed to Nuzzi (https://rkd.nl/images/197659).
