A pair of Equestrian bronze groups of Lorenzo and Giuliano de' Medici, Italian, Florentine, mid-17th century The bronze equestrian groups are related to Michelangelo's monumental marble figures of Lorenzo and Giuliano de' Medici in the New Sacristy of the Basilica of San Lorenzo in Florence, here depicting the two Medici dukes on horseback. Freshly modelled, the two figures are dressed all'antica, in the classic style of Roman military garb. Moulded separately and then reattached, Giuliano wears a breastplate decorated with lion heads on his shoulders and is shown pulling vigorously on the reins, his head tilted slightly to the right and his gaze fixed downwards. Lorenzo is wearing a helmet in the shape of a lion's head and is also shown pulling on the reins, his right hand raised in the air. *Information for buyers: Lot from outside the EU: The hammer price is exclusive of VAT.
