PCGS MS62 (50994206). With reverse numeral 4. Beautifully struck, on a slightly domed flan. Golden patina. Superb condition. Emmanuel-Philibert is known as the "iron head" and was an active duke during his reign, a legislator and organiser, transferring the capital to Turin, ensuring the territorial integrity of the duchy after the Treaty of Blois, founder of the University, etc. In 1572, he re-established the Order of Saint-Maurice, created in 1434 by Amédée VIII in Thonon, and united it with the Order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem founded in Palestine in the 12th century.
