JACOBUS VICTOR (Amsterdam?, c. 1640 - 1705) Living Nature Signed or inscribed in the centre: Jacomo/Victor. /F Oil on canvas, 89X108 cm Provenance: New York, Lenygon and Morant inc. (second label on verso) New York, Sotheby's, 7 October 1994, lot 157 (as Jacobus Victor) Milan, private collection Information on the painter refers to a probable apprenticeship alongside Melchior Hondecoeter in the workshop of Jan Baptist Weenix. Victors' Italian experience must be placed between the middle of the seventh decade and 1670, as he married in Amsterdam at the beginning of 1671. The painting can be compared with the works of his best production, a very high quality also enhanced by its good conservation. The work is accompanied by a critical card by Maria Silvia Proni.
