Lot no. 3228
JACQUES CARABAIN (Amsterdam 1834-1933 Schaerbeek) The Werner Chapel in Oberwesel. Oil on canvas. Signed lower right: J. Carabain. 52.3 × 42.3 cm. Provenance: European private collection. With this painting, Carabain shows us an interesting building from German history. It is the Werner Chapel (today Mother Rosa Chapel) in Oberwesel on the Middle Rhine in Rhineland-Palatinate. The origins of the chapel, which is built in the immediate vicinity of the Rhine, date back to the 14th century. A special architectural feature of the building is the gate-like street passage below the chancel of the chapel, which gives it an exceptionally charming appearance. The chapel has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley since 2002. This property marked with * (asterisk) is fully subject to VAT, i.e. VAT will be charged on the hammer price plus buyer's premium. Buyers who present a legally stamped export declaration will be reimbursed the VAT.
