Provenance: Sale of the artist's studio, Paris, 17 April 1826, the initials of his son Jules and his brother Eugène affixed on this occasion (L.1437 and L. 839) on the lower part; Anonymous sale; Monaco, Sotheby's, 1 July 1995, no. 82; Private collection, Paris Comment: Like an album page in the Graphic Arts Department of the Musée du Louvre (INV 26148.BIS, Recto), this face of the goddess Cybele, wearing ramparts and a veil, was probably executed by David after an antique statue.
