Misia Sert (née Marie Sophie Olga Zenaide Godebska, 1872-1950) - a famous patron of the arts and a central figure in the cultural life of Belle Époque and early twentieth-century Paris, Misia Sert was born into an aristocratic Belgian-Polish family. A gifted pianist and muse, she ran a famous salon that brought together leading artists, writers and musicians, including Renoir, Proust, Cocteau, Diaghilev and Stravinsky. Closely associated with the Ballets Russes, she was both confidante and financier to Serge Diaghilev, playing a crucial role in the development of modernist performance and aesthetics.
