JAHN (Gustav). Tauernbahn. K. K. Hof und Staatsdruckerei, Vienna, 1908. Colour lithographed poster, 100 x 70 cm, framed in Plexiglas. The poster depicts the Tauern railway bridge over the Angertal near Bad Hofgastein in the Gastein valley (Austria). The lower part of the poster features a view of the Nassfeld Pass in the Carnic Alps and a view of Badgastein, a fashionable Austrian resort from the early 20th century, as well as a schematic map of the Austrian railway network. Condition: A-. Gustav Jahn (Vienna 1879 - Grosser Ödstein 1919) was an Austrian painter, mountaineer and skier. A student of Adolf Kaufmann and then of the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts, he specialised in high mountain landscapes. He was an excellent mountaineer, and climbed several first ascents in the Dachstein massif, as well as the Dolomites and the Mont Blanc massif. He was also a skiing pioneer, having finished second in the Austrian skiing championships at Zell am See in 1908. He and his climbing companion Michael Kofler died in a fall while climbing Grosser Ödstein. Viaggio alle Alpi, p. 64
