Signed, titled and dedicated to Gustave Coquiot in graphite 114 x 154 mm yellowed paper A similar work is kept in the collections of the Museum of Fine Arts in Ghent (Inv. 1998-B-92) Ensor repeatedly repeated motifs from his drawings in etchings and, later, lithographs. An example of this is the work 'Démons me turlupinant', which Ensor executed as a drawing and later as an engraving and lithograph. Ensor repeated the composition for a colour lithograph that served as the poster for his solo exhibition at the Salon des Cent in Paris and was published by the French magazine La Plume (inv. 2003-AY). The Ensor exhibition was organised on the initiative of Eugène Demolder, a friend of Ensor. The exhibition took place from 15 December 1898 to 15 January 1899 at 31 rue Bonaparte in Paris. The representation of Christ surrounded by intimidating devils is taken from the drawing "Démons me turlupinant" of 1888 (Chicago, The Art Institute), later reworked in the engraving and lithograph of the same name of 1895.
