James ENSOR (1860-1949). My skeleton portrait. Etching signed and countersigned in pencil in 1889. Size: 12 x 8 cm. Provenance :From a series of four lithographs and an "Ensorien" souvenir from a Belgian private collection close to the painter. -Origin: Alexandrine Daveluy (1924-2006), niece of the painter James Ensor, daughter of Mitche Ensor, wife of a Chinese diplomat. -Private collection of Mrs Marie Thérèse Van Den Weghe, a close friend of Alexandrine. The friendship between Alexandrine and Marie Thérèse originated in the friendly relationship between James Ensor and Maurice van den Weghe (1896-1969), a prominent Ostend citizen. It has been in the family ever since.
A certificate of provenance signed by the current owner, a descendant of the Van den Weghe family, close to James Ensor, will be given to the buyer.
