Eine Expertise in Kopie von Dr. Klaus Ertz aus dem Jahre 1987 liegt dem Gemälde bei. Der Heilige Ignatius von Loyola sitzt inmitten einer sommerlichen Waldlandschaft. Seine schwarze Mönchskutte hebt sich kaum vom dunklen Grün der hinter ihm dargestellten Baumgruppe ab. Das blasse Inkarnat seines Gesichts, umfangen von einer strahlenförmigen Gloriole, sowie seine Hände, erhoben zum Segensgestus, stechen hervor. Zu seinen Füßen liegen die unterschiedlichsten Arten von Obst und Gemüse. So findet sich auch ganz im Sinne Ignatius' missionarischen Strebens ein Kürbis darunter als Symbol des sich ausbreitenden Christentums. Rechts und links von der Baumgruppe befinden sich Ausblicke auf eine Gruppe von Feldarbeitern bei der Ernte sowie auf eine Meeresbucht. Gegenüber der ins Meer hinabstoßenden Landzone, am Fuße der Waldlandschaft, erhebt sich eine in bläulichem Dunst erscheinende Stadt. Über deren Türme die unterschiedlichsten Vögel im Glanz der Sonne fliegend. Diesem Jubel steht die emsige Stimmung des rechten Ausblicks diametral entgegen. Vor dem dunklen Himmel ist das Dorf mit dem Kirchenturm kaum auszumachen. Die Feldarbeiter bemühen sich, vor dem nahenden Gewitter ihre Arbeit zu beenden. Das Gemälde besticht durch seine Vielfalt an Getier und Pflanzen. Rechts im Vordergrund findet sich ein qualitätvolles und naturgetreues Blumenstillleben. Dem gegenüber, in der linken Ecke, ein sich nach Weintrauben streckender Leopard. Schräg hinter diesem zwei Hunde, die einen Papagei in einem Feigenbaum aufgeregt ankläffen. In den Ästen der mittleren Baumgruppe verborgen ein Uhu. Anmerkung: Das Gemälde zeigt große Übereinstimmung mit Jan Brueghels "Landschaft mit Ceres", um 1730, im J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles. Accompanied by an expert's report in copy by Dr Klaus Ertz from 1987. Saint Ignatius of Loyola is shown sitting in a summery forest landscape. His black habit hardly contrasts with the dark-green group of trees behind him. The pale flesh tones of his face, surrounded by a radial gloriole, and his hands, raised in blessing, stand out. A variety of fruits and vegetables are arranged around his feet. A pumpkin features among them, symbol for the expanding Christendom and entirely in line with Ignatius' missionary aspirations. Either side of the group of trees reveals a vista of a group of harvesting farmworkers one side and a bay of sea on the other. On the opposite side of the promontory jutting out to sea, at the foot of the forest landscape, a city appears out of the bluish haze. A variety of birds fly, in the sun's rays, over the towers of the city. Diametrically opposed to this joyousness is the diligent atmosphere of the vista on the right. Against the dark sky, a village with a steeple can be discerned. The farmworkers are endeavouring to finish brining in the harvest before the approaching thunderstorm. The painting impresses with its plant and animal diversity: in the foreground, on the right, a high-quality and naturalistic flower still life can be seen. On the opposite side, in the left corner, a leopard is stretching upwards to reach grapes. Diagonally behind him, two dogs are depicted, barking excitedly at a parrot, sitting on a fig tree. An eagle owl is hidden among the branches of the central group of trees. Note: The painting shows great conformity with Jan Brueghel's Landscape with Ceres, ca. 1730, in the J.
