Professor Fred Meijer dates this painting to around 1644, a year in which the artist mainly painted large floral compositions, but also perhaps a still life.
Gammelbo compared it to the Still Life in the Copenhagen Museum from 1652, in which we find similar elements: the same römher (but slightly off-centre), peeled lemon, crabs, bunch of grapes and leaves.
We are grateful to Professor Fred Meijer for confirming the attribution of this painting, by email, using digital photography, on 12 September 2018. It is included in his University of Amsterdam PhD thesis of June 2016, Jan Davidz. de Heem (1606-1684), in the catalogue raisonné under no. A084.
