Large in-8, long-grained blue half-maroquin with corners, gilt fillet, smooth spine decorated throughout, gilt head, untrimmed, cover and spine (Canape). First edition of the illustration by Tony Johannot, comprising a steel-engraved portrait of the author by Revel, 12 hors texte plates engraved by Hébert, Thompson, Lavieille, etc., printed on a buff tinted background, and a hundred or so vignettes in the text. A very fine copy, with full margins, in which the attractive glossy white cover, illustrated in gilt, has been preserved (lined with minor defects).
