JAPAN - Elegant pair of Meiji period cloisonné vases of baluster form, standing on wide circular feet, the calyx-shaped bodies surmounted by short, flaring necks, decorated in polychrome enamels on a turquoise ground with butterflies, flowers and birds in ovoid cartouches on either side of the bodies, the backgrounds lined with foliage, phoenixes and flowers in the archaic Chinese style.
