JAPAN, Meiji era (1868-1912) Daishô - set consisting of a katana and a wakizashi, the handles covered with silk and braided cords, the gilt copper menuki in the shape of a dragon chasing a pearl, the fuchi kashira in shakudo decorated with shishi in bamboo on a nanako background, and the tsuba in shakudo with a nanako background inlaid with gilt copper and brown decoration of stylised waves, The wakizashi with nakago signed "Choshû no jû Kiyoshige", and featuring a kogatana signed Gotô Kanjô (on the kozuka), its blade incised with an ornamental inscription "Sôshû no jû Sadamune saku" and a stylised dragon with its pearl; L. 96 cm and 69 cm LDM Wear and chips to the lacquer of the scabbards (saya), some braiding cords undone (handles), the blades slightly oxidised (and greased), the wakizashi blade with the point missing.
