JAPAN, MEIJI period (1868-1912) - Okimono in namari representing a divinity, probably FUGEN BOSATSU, sitting on the back of an elephant, a child holding a scroll at her feet. Height 15 cm. Length 13 cm. Marks of oxidation. Formerly mounted on a pedestal, as can be seen from the holes under the elephant's legs. Expert: Madame Anne Papillon d'Alton
