JAPAN - Tosei gusoku, complete armour, consisting of a 64-slat hoshi bachi kabuto helmet signed 明珎作 Miyochin saku, on a slat beneath the inner lining, embossed eyebrows on the visor, front and side crest holders ; a mask, mempo, posterior moustache; shoulder pads, sode, with six blades; armbands, kote; a cuirass, do, in natural iron plates; a weapons skirt, haidate, with the kamon of the Taira clan; strikes, suneate; and finally a wooden carrying box barded with iron. Japan, Edo period (1603-1868), 18th or 19th century. Composite. Fairly good condition. Attached is a modern maedate, helmet ornament, featuring a black and gilded dragon bat.
