Japan, 17th century Inrô with four compartments in maki-e lacquer and mother-of-pearl inlays decorated on each side with a large seated figure, one in front of a screen and the other at a low table, the interior in nashi-ji lacquer, the ojime formed by an agate pearl and the bone netsuke representing a standing sennin holding a gourd at the end of a stick. Chips and wear to the lacquer 8.6 x 5 cm (inro); H. 4.6 cm (netsuke) Enclosed is a small polychrome enamelled stoneware incense box (kogo) in the form of Okame standing in a kimono with a floral motif, and a painted wooden netsuke depicting a standing woman holding a basket. H. 5.3 cm and 3.5 cm.
