CENTRAL JAVA, Indonesia.
Very fine Kriss dapor-bener, the blade is made of a mixture of steel, iron and nickel (damascened) with a wooden "ukiran" handle with a very fine black patina featuring a stylised Garuda-headed figure. The wooden scabbard is covered with a hammered copper leaf pendok and topped with an elegant ladrand wrangka.
Length: 49 cm.
Note: The kriss (keris in Indonesian and Curiga in Javanese) is a dagger that symbolises the physical and social double of its owner.
Provenance: Collected in situ in 1976 by Jacques Cortecero.
