Jean-Baptiste CARPEAUX (1827-1875) Bust of Alexandre Dumas fils. Proof in terracotta with black patina. Bears a dedication "all sommo Pensieroso Alexandre Dumas fils suo amico" and signed "Carpeaux 1873" on the side of the terrace. Stamped with an eagle and Atelier & Dépôt 71 rue Boileau Auteuil Paris on the back of the terrace. Numbered "2439". Height : 44 cm Restoration to the neck, missing patina, small hole at the back of the head. Very close to Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux since their meeting in Rome in 1861, Alexandre Dumas fils asked him to create his bust for the foyer of the Comédie-Française, alongside those of Alfred de Musset and Honoré de Balzac.
