This is the first version of the Pêcheur napolitain, the first shipment from Rome in memory of his stay in Naples, the net having been added later by Carpeaux. Our bronze, reproduced in the catalogue raisonné of the sculptor's published works, is a rare cast by Thiébaut, made in 1863 at the artist's express request.
