Jean-Baptiste Huet (1745 Paris - 1811 ibid.) Three sheep heads Huet came from a family of artists and learnt from his father Nicolas Huet, the animal painter Charles Dagomer and Jean Baptiste Leprince. A friend of François Boucher, he became a member of the Académie in 1769, moved into a flat in the Louvre in 1770 and was entrusted with the decoration of royal rooms in Versailles. In addition to landscapes and pastoral scenes, he depicted sheep in particular with great vibrancy and individual expression. Many of his works were also published as reproductions from 1770 onwards. Black chalk and grey wash ink/paper, mounted on cardboard. Signed lower right and dated. 1770. depiction approx. 10.8 cm x 13.5 cm.
