In-folio, tawny basane on wooden boards, original cold-stamped calf partly preserved and applied to the boards, two remains of brass fastenings on the edge of the second board, spine decorated with cold fillets (Modern binding). The second volume alone of the works of John Chrysostom, bringing together the Sermons or Homilies. This post-incunabula Basel edition reproduces the first collective edition, published in Venice the previous year by Thomas Januensis de Valerano. It is printed in Gothic script on two columns. The copy is rubricated in red and blue. Sixteenth-century handwritten notes in Latin covering the last blank page; nineteenth-century notice on the first blank endpaper. From the libraries of the Chartreuse de Paris, with crossed-out handwritten bookplate; Dayet (?), with signature; D. M. Rinssant, de Niort, with signature dated 1594; Charles Labande, with signature; des Capucines de Saint Maixent, with handwritten bookplate, du Cardinal Spinola, with armorial bookplate on verso of title; and Jules-Ladimir François, with bookplate. Binding entirely rebound, retaining vestiges of the original binding on the boards. Spine faded, some spotting and rubbing. Trace of a detached label on the title. Some worm work affecting the text.
