Note: He created his first work for the Exposition inteRnatiOnale du Surréalisme organised in 1959 at the Daniel Cordier gallery in Paris. Silbermann exhibited a box in Mimi Parent's Crypte du fétichisme. Following this experience, he made a number of boxes, including lot 33, before devoting himself to the wooden "enseignes sournoises" that he exhibited from 1964 onwards (see lot 48).
