Jean-Jacques DUCEL, born on 8 September 1801 in Marseille, was a Master Forger based at 26 rue du Faubourg Poissonnière in Paris; he was a copper, iron and cast iron foundryman. He owned a foundry at Pocé-sur-Cisse in Touraine, which was one of the largest art foundries in France until his death in 1877. The company specialised in casting objets d'art and became one of the first establishments of its kind in France, using both classical models (Coustou, Coysevox, Le Hongre) and contemporary ones (Lequesne, Pradier, Duret). A sales outlet was opened in Paris, at 22 rue des Quatre-Fils and later at 26 boulevard Poissonnière. The fonts were stamped J.J. DUCEL ET FILS A PARIS. His son did not continue the business in which he was associated with his father. The Ducel foundry models were bought by the Vals d'Osne foundry in 1878.
