Jean MAUBROU (1900-1965) - Saint Amand en Puisaye
Large enamelled stoneware candelabra with two lights
Signed on the back.
Total height: 50 cm - Height of ceramic: 21 cm
Provenance: Georges Robin studio collection, inherited by the family
Born in 1900, Jean Maubrou moved to the village of Saint-Amand-en-Puisaye around 1923, to La Bertille, in the former workshop of Jean Carries.
He built a workshop there to create a traditional craft. Mobilised in 1939, imprisoned in Germany, his health weakened by the war years forced him to convalesce. From 1944 to 1946, he rented his workshop to Pierre Pigaglio, who modernised the production style with the arrival of the young Jean Derval. After Pigaglio's departure, Jean Maubrou took over the ceramics business in his workshop, until it was bought by Georges Robin in 1958.
