Etienne Grafe rightly noted in his 1984 note that this work had "souvenir value". Indeed, the Château de Pierre-Scize was destroyed by the revolutionary government in a decree on 12 October 1793, which saw it as "the symbol of royal arbitrariness and a sort of Lyonnais Bastille".
