Jean-Paul CASTAIGNET 1852-1934 "Arcachon Oil on canvas, signed and situated lower right Louis XVI style wood and gilded stucco frame. Height 98 cm. 131 cm long. The lower part of the canvas has been enlarged by one centimetre to match the frame perfectly. This enlargement consists of a wooden strip painted in the same tones as the lower part of the composition. This similarity of tones and brushstrokes suggests that this addition, which is perfectly executed and difficult to detect, was made at the same time as the canvas was created, probably by the artist himself. The artist's personal address is written in graphite on the stretcher: "Castagnet, 35 rue Mondenard".
