Lot no. 3
Jean Pierre de SAEDELEER (1946-2022) - Belgium Necklace in 18k (750 thousandths) yellow gold comprising a veined-cast gold pendant set with very fine opals, one of which is on a matrix with orange, green and blue flashes (probably an untested doublet), and two opals with blue flashes, one of which is transparent (small cracks). The set is set off by seven round brilliant diamonds. Articulated necklace in 18k yellow gold. Signed with the designer's hallmark. Pendant size: 8.3 x 3.5 cm. Length of necklace: approx. 40 cm. Gross weight: 29.6 g. Jean-Pierre de Saedeleer's creations are well known, particularly for their pleated gold leaf effect, an idea found in several Belgian designers of the same period. However, he always manages to surprise us with jewellery that is completely out of his usual line. In the necklace shown here, he invites us on a family trip to Tenerife. During a walk, he noticed the sun shining through a cactus leaf, revealing an inspiring network of veins. Back in Belgium, he decided to use this inspiration to transpose it into gold, illuminating it not with pearls - one of his favourite materials - but with opals with remarkable reflections. The largest of these opals is a concentration of flashes, evoking the crackle of sunlight. With this creation, Jean-Pierre de Saedeleer shows that Belgian jewellers dare to experiment with bold shapes and contrasts, following their desires to create unique and inspiring pieces.
