During the first third of the 20th century, Paris became one of the world's leading venues for international events: the 1900 Universal Exhibition and Olympic Games, the 1925 International Exhibition of Decorative and Industrial Arts, the 1931 Colonial Exhibition, and the 1937 Universal Exhibition (International Exhibition of Arts and Techniques Applied to Modern Life). Just over a century ago, the capital also succeeded in securing the organisation of the VIII Olympiad, the seventh edition of the modern Olympic Games, during the summer of 5 July to 25 July 1924.
