Joan Brossa (Barcelona, 1919 - 1998) and Antoni Tàpies (Barcelona, 1923 - 2012) “Frègoli” Artist's book with lithographs by Antoni Tàpies and poems by Joan Brossa. Numbered copy 227 of the Edition of 1000 out of a total edition of 1119 copies. Signed in pencil by both authors. Published by Sala Gaspar. Barcelona, 1969. Printed by Foto-repro workshops under the direction of Joaquim Montoliu. Lithographs and collages printed by Damià Caus under the direction of Antoni Tàpies. 37 x 27,5 cm.   This book is a tribute to the Italian actor, quick-change artist, and singer Leopoldo Fregoli (Rome, 1867 - Viareggio, 1936). The Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA) holds a copy of the same book, bearing the registration number A03141. The museum's files provide the following description of the book: Joan Brossa presents the figure of the Italian quick-change artist as a precursor of poetic surrealism and the art of cinema, and recalls that Fregoli performed on several occasions in the city of Barcelona with great success. Brossa then presents the intention behind the creation of the artist's book Frègoli (1969) with Antoni Tàpies, which aims to capture the essence of Fregolism with a contemporary sensibility through various transformations that occur on each page.'   The two artists collaborated on numerous occasions. The book we are presenting here is one example, along with other works such as the book of poems Nocturn matinal (1970) and the artist's book Novel·la (1965), published, like ours, by Sala Gaspar, and also featured in this auction.
