He is known for visually impactful creations with a distinctive creative imagination. He played a key role in pioneering initiatives such as the embryonic magazine 'Algol' in 1946 and was a founder and key figure, along with Brossa and Tàpies, among others, of the Dau al Set group, which grew up around a magazine of the same name of which he was the director. Dalí and Miró were friends of his. After his first solo exhibition at the Sala Arte in Bilbao (1946), he exhibited in numerous European venues, as well as at Staempfli in New York (1966) and the Museum of Modern Art in São Paulo, Brazil, where he stayed between 1953 and 1962, fleeing the Francoist dictatorship. The MACBA, which holds numerous paintings, drawings, engravings, and other graphic materials by the master in its collection, states in its artist profile that 'his painting constitutes a fascinating universe populated by unique beings, between grotesque and diabolical, between tortured and premonitory, making him capable of exploring the darkest realms of the human being.' For more information, narrated in the first person and with special irony, we recommend reading Joan Ponç's Autobiography, which can be downloaded from the official website of the Associació Joan Ponç.   Reference bibliography: - Associació Joan Ponç.
