Johann Caspar Schneider (1753 Mainz - 1839 ibid.) Country scene with farmers and cattle Atmospheric view of a hilly landscape enlivened by resting and wandering farmers with their cattle and children. Picturesque houses, churches and castles can be recognised among the trees and bushes on the gentle, sweeping hills. The finely glazed, romanticised ideal landscape is representative of Schneider's oeuvre in terms of subject, composition and style and was used several times in it. The artist preferred to find the motifs for his landscape compositions and vedute in the surroundings of his home town of Mainz, the charming and impressive areas along the Rhine and Main rivers.
